The exhibit also tells the story of a forest becoming more vulnerable. Africa has the second largest amount of forest in the world, but keeping it requires more effective, sustainable management that can prevent the forest’s depletion.
A well-managed forest can provide vital wood for us and our children and grandchildren.
‘Remember : Knock on Wood!’

Knock on Wood! tells the story of African trees and forests, where people live, dwell and work; of the tropical forest as a source of energy, nourishment and medication; of the same forest as the supplier of precious, robust and much sought after wood.

Many items made from wood or its derivatives pass through our hands everyday. Wood is so well established in our culture that we seldom wonder about its origin, characteristics or the qualities of individual species.
